BANG SERIES PART 2: THE ROUND FACE

Written by Jessica Tellez, Hairstylist at Urban Betty

Second up in this series is the round face. To determine if your face is round, look to see where your cheekbones are as well as the length, forehead to chin. The cheekbones should be the widest and the measurements from top to bottom equal the width of your cheekbones. While this face shape has fewer options, there are still so many. Here are a few of my favorites:

THE TEXTURED SHORT BANG

Daily Time Commitment:

  • With no cowlicks, it just requires a few minutes of blow-dry time.
  • With cowlicks, it could be harder to style. Make sure to talk this over with your stylist. There’s a solid chance that these would be a no go.

Hairstylist Commitment:

  • Not the time to flip flop between stylists. You’ll need to find your person and stick with them. Do not attempt to cut your own short bangs at home.

Trips to the Salon:

  • Once every 3-4 weeks, depending on your personal growth time

THE TEXTURED MEDIUM BANG

Daily Time Commitment:

  • With no cowlicks, it just requires a few minutes of blow-dry time.
  • With cowlicks, it could be harder to style. Make sure to talk this over with your stylist. There’s a solid chance that these would be harder to work with BUT doable. Just make sure you discuss this with your stylist!

Hairstylist Commitment:

  • Not the time to flip flop between stylists. You’ll need to find your person and stick with them. Do not attempt to cut your own short bangs at home.

Trips to the Salon:

  • Once every 4-6 weeks, depending on your personal growth time

THE SIDE BANG

Daily Time Commitment:

  • With no cowlicks, it just requires a few minutes of blow-dry time, if at all.
  • With cowlicks, it could be harder, but less so than the textured bang to style. Make sure to talk this over with your stylist. There’s a smaller chance that these would be harder to work with BUT doable. Just make sure you discuss this with your stylist!

Hairstylist Commitment:

  • Nothing too much to worry about, just make sure to bring pictures of your previous bangs. Side bangs can be a little vague, so give direction.

Trips to the Salon:

  • Once every 6-10 weeks, depending on your personal growth time

THE CURTAIN BANG

Daily Time Commitment:

  • With no cowlicks, it just requires a few minutes of blow-dry time.
  • With cowlicks, it could be harder, but less so than the textured bang to style. Make sure to talk this over with your stylist. There’s chance that these would be harder to work with BUT doable. Just make sure you discuss this with your stylist!

Hairstylist Commitment:

  • These can be a little stylist specific, so keep with your person. Not a time to stray. Don’t forget to bring in inspiration pics!

Trips to the Salon:

  • Once every 6-8 weeks, depending on your personal growth time

THE ‘OFF THE FACE BANG

This is usually going to be a pixie.

  • If you are going pixie, not the time to shop around or go cheap. This is something you have to make SURE your stylist knows what they are doing.

Trips to the Salon:

  • Once every 6-8 weeks, depending on your personal growth time

THE CURLY BANG

Daily Time Commitment:

  • Ideally you would air dry these bangs with plenty of product. You can also try a diffuser.
  • With cowlicks, it could be harder, depending on where the cowlick is located and the strength of the pattern. Just make sure you discuss this with your stylist!

Hairstylist Commitment:

  • These can be a little stylist specific, so keep with your person. Not a time to stray. Don’t forget to bring in inspiration pics!

THE DON’T FOR ROUND FACES

The biggest DON’T for a round face is a heavy, straight across bang. The reason why is because these bangs break the face up too much, making it appear smaller. It’s also too blocky for a softer shaped face.
