Accidentally Speaking at the Salon Today 200 Conference

So I might have had a few too many glasses of wine and accidentally applied to be a speaker at the Salon Today 200 conference. 😅

Let me back up…

I was sitting at home one night trying to buy my ticket to the conference after a couple glasses of wine. I couldn’t find where to purchase the attendee ticket anywhere… but somehow I DID find the speaker application. So naturally, I filled it out thinking, “Why not?” and hit submit before I could really think twice about it.

Then sometime around 3 AM I woke up in full panic mode thinking, “Oh my God. What did I just do? What if they actually pick me?”

Sure enough, about a week later, I got the email that I had officially been selected as a speaker.

Cue immediate terror. 😱

Public speaking has never been something that comes naturally to me, and the idea of standing on a stage in front of some of the best salon owners and industry leaders in the country felt incredibly intimidating. But once the nerves settled down, I realized what an honor it really was.

Getting to share Urban Betty’s story, our marketing strategies, and the lessons we’ve learned while building this company over the last 20 years was honestly surreal. There were moments where I looked out into the audience and thought, “How did I end up here?” Even if technically “Wine Chelle” was the one who made the original decision. 😂

And the coolest part? Urban Betty didn’t just have one person representing this year. Hallie, our VP of Operations, also spoke on the manager panel and absolutely crushed it. Watching her up there sharing her knowledge and leadership made me so proud of what we’ve built together as a team. 💅

One of my favorite things about events like this is getting to connect with other salon owners who are all navigating the same challenges, ideas, and dreams. We came home with pages and pages of notes, fresh inspiration, new relationships, and a whole new level of excitement for what’s next at Urban Betty.

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle of running a business, but experiences like this remind me how important it is to step outside your comfort zone… even if it happens accidentally after a few glasses of wine. 😉
