Go Pink for October!

October is breast cancer awareness month, so come on in, get inspired by pink and support your fellow men and women in the fight!

Urban Betty is offering pink hair extensions all month long, so you can show your support and help spread the word about breast cancer awareness.

The extensions are made from real hair and they clip on to an existing piece of your hair.  You can shampoo, blow dry and heat style them!  It only takes a 15 minute appointment and it’s $15 for the first extension and $10 for each additional extension.

All proceeds go to the Susan G Komen Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising money to provide breast cancer screening, education and medical services as well as financial and emotional support.

Have more questions about breast cancer or how you can help?  The National Breast Cancer Foundation website has tons of information.  They also help provide mammograms for women who cannot afford them.

Want to donate your ponytail? Here’s how!

September is National Leukemia Awareness Month. So let’s talk about what you need to know to donate your hair. Here at Urban Betty we are teaming up with Pantene Beautiful Lengths and offering free haircuts for those wanting to donate their hair for the month of September.

First make sure you meet the requirements. You must have eight or more inches to donate, hair must be chemical free, (this includes haircolor, bleach, and perms) with no more than 5% grey. One length hair is preferred as most of the layers won’t meet the requirement.

Next come in with clean dry hair, which is very important. This reason for this being that we will cut first, and then shampoo, so that the hair donation is free of any moisture. I prefer to section the hair off in several small ponytails around the head to maximize donation, as well as keep the existing hair as even as possible. Bring photos of what you are thinking  to collaborate with your stylist. Don’t forget to have fun with it, now is a perfect time to experiment with your makeover and branch out.  Try a new hair color even! After all, you deserve it because of your hard work and patience.
